Manipur CM appeals for peace

Kochi: Days after lifting of President’s rule, violence was reported in Manipur where clashes between two groups in Ukhrul district led to torching of some houses, India Today reported.
Prohibitory orders were imposed to prevent escalation of the violence.
The new chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh had taken charge only a few days back.
Meanwhile, Yumnam appealed for calm amid growing concerns over renewed unrest.

The Chief Minister met the injured at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences.
Urgung all sections of society to maintain peace and harmony, he said dialogue and restraint are essential to prevent further escalation of tension. Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho and Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah and Kimneo Hangshing Haokip, MLA visited Litan Sareikhong, where clashes between members of the Tangkhul and Kuki communities were reported a day earlier.
Official sources said more than 20 houses were set on fire during the incident. Three four-wheeler vehicles were also burnt.
