Modi sets record

Kochi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday became the longest-serving head in India by surpassing the record held by former Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling.
Modi has now completed 8,931 days in public office as head of government breaking the record of 8,930 days held by Chamling, News18 reported.
Modi became Gujarat Chief Minister in 2001 and remained in the office before taking over as Prime Minister in 2014. He is the longest-serving Chief Minister of Gujarat and the Prime Minister with the most prior experience as a Chief Minister.
Modi, who is also the first Prime Minister born after India’s Independence, is also the only non-Congress leader to complete two full terms as the head of the central government.
Modi surpassed late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to become the second-longest-serving Prime Minister of India in consecutive terms.
He had completed 4,078 days in office on July 25, 2025. Former PM Indira Gandhi was in the office in an unbroken stint for 4,077 days, from January 24, 1966, to March 24, 1977
Narendra Modi has matched country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru of Congress in leading their parties to victory in three consecutive Lok Sabha elections.
