Kochi: Hours after the suicide of an LLB student Mofiya Parveen, her husband Mohammad Suhail, 27, father Yusuf 63, and mother Ruqiya, 55 have been arrested by the police.
The accused were produced before the Aluva Judicial First Class Magistrate who remanded them to 14 days judicial custody. They were shifted to Kakkanad jail.
The prosecution have sought police custody of the accused for five days.
Mofiya was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her house on Monday night unable to endure harassment of her husband, in-laws and police, media reports said.
When police failed to take cognizance of her complaint, she took the extreme step, reports said.
In her dying note, she accused her husband and his parents of harassing her for dowry and divorce. She also accused the police of harassing her when she went to file a complaint.
The accused were arrested from the house of their relatives in Kothamangalam on Tuesday where they were hiding after going underground following the incident, media reports said.
Meanwhile, her mother told the media that Mofiya was painted as a mental patient for the sake of getting a divorce from her. Suhail had filed for talaq before his mosque which rejected it saying that it had to be done through a court.
The two got married after becoming friends through social media in April. Suhail misinformed Mofiya’s family that he was employed abroad.
Only after marriage, it was known that he was a vlogger and made YouTube videos. He wanted to make films and sought Rs 40 lakh from her.
On not getting it, he started to harass her. Mofiya did freelance designing to earn side income which she shared with Suhail.
