Kochi: A Mumbai court sentenced Mani C Kaappan, MLA, to one year’s imprisonment and slapped a penalty of Rs 1.20 crore in a Kannur Airport stake cheating case.
The Mumbai Borivali Magistrate court ruled that Kaappan should pay the penalty amount within one month, else Nani would jail term will be extended by additional three months.
The complainant is Dinesh Menon, Asianet news reported.
Kaappan told Asianet that he will challenge the verdict in Kerala High Court.
The Kerala High Court had on Friday dismissed a petition filed by Kappan, MLA, seeking to quash the cheating case registered against him on a complaint by a Mumbai-based businessman.
According to the complaint by Dinesh Menon, Kappan had cheated him by not repaying ₹2 crore borrowed from him in 2010 except for ₹25 lakh.
The court observed that whether the allegations were true or not was a matter that could be decided only after appreciating the evidence.
