Kochi: The murder of BJP leader Sonali Phogat is getting murkier each day as a drug peddler has been arrested while the owner of the Curlis Club where she was given drugs is under surveillance, media reports said.
Her personal assistant Sudhir Sagwan and his friend Sukhwinder Wasi who were arrested, were produced before a court which sent them to police custody for ten days, the reports said.
The drug peddler who supplied the drugs is in police custody.
More arrests are expected during the interrogation of the accused even as the police are waiting for a comprehensive postmortem report.
The 42-year-old BJP leader Sonali was forcefully drugged by Sagwan and Wasi.
The CCTV visuals showed one of them forcing her to consume an “obnoxious drink” from a bottle.
Another visual showed Wasi taking the unsteady Sonali to the Washroom where she was kept for about two hours without being taken to the washroom.
The accused had travelled to Goa with her on August 22 in the name of a video shoot which turned out to be wrong.
During interrogation the accused confessed to
mixing “obnoxious chemicals” in the liquid and made her consume it, the reports said.
Before her death, she had called her mother and some others to inform that she was unwell and complained against Sangwan and Wasi, her brother Rinku Dhaka said.
Hailing from Hisar in Haryana, Phogat had unsuccessfully contested the 2019 assembly election in Haryana. Sonali had also acted in reality show Big Boss in 2020.
