Record liquor sale

Kochi: Kerala gulped liquor worth Rs 759 crore during nine days of Onam season ending Monday.
This is Rs 59 crore more than Rs 700 crore recorded during the same period last year, media reports said.
The state government got taxes of Rs 675 crore as taxes from the sale.
Uthradam day sale of Rs 121 crore was the highest recorded during the nine days.
The sale of liquor in the month of August was Rs 1,799 crore against 1,522 posted during the same period last year.
The most favourite item was jawan rum of which 70,000 cases were sold.
Tirur in Malappuram topped in consuming maximum liquor while the second position went to Irinjalakuda in Thrissur.
