7 years jail for Nazeer in bus burning case

Kochi: The NIA court sentenced Thadiyanantavida Nazeer and Sabir Buhari to seven years imprisonment in connection with the 2005 Tamil Nadu Government bus burning case at Kalamassery in Ernakulam in Kerala.
The court sentenced Thajuddin to six years imprisonment in the case.
The court imposed a penalty of Rs 1.75 lakh on Nazeer while the penalty on the other two is Rs 1.5 lakh each.
The three had confessed to committing the crime before the court.
Earlier, the court had sentenced K A Anoop of Paravoor to six years of imprisonment as he had admitted to his complicity in the crime.
The bus, going from Ernakulam KSRTC Bus stand to Salem, was hijacked at gunpoint on September 9, 2005, demanding release of PDP leader Abdul Nazar Madani from Coimbatore jail where he was put in connection with Coimbatore serial blast case in 1998.
After making passengers deboard the bus, it was set on fire. The NIA had taken evidence from eight persons including the driver of the bus which was added to the chargesheet in 2010.
NIA had recorded the statement of 31 passengers. But the statement went missing.
The trial began only in 2019.
Thadiyantavide Nazeer, who is accused in a number of cases, is the accused number one.
The gun allegedly used for hijacking the bus is still untraceable. Madani’s wife Sufiya Madani accused number 10.
