Kochi: The Supreme Court on Saturday upheld Calcutta High Court’s order rejecting a plea of All India Trinamool Congress (AITMC) challenging the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) arrangement for counting of votes in the Assembly polls on May 4, media reports said.
The ECI told the division bench of Apex court that it will follow its April 13 circular, including the use of both Central and State personnel.
TMC’s plea demanded deployment of State government employees along with Central government employees in the counting process.
The court observed that AITMC representatives will be present during the counting of votes and said that the EC’s circular is not contrary to the rules.
