Kochi: Forty school boys and girls clashed at a junior NBA organised Skill Challenge in the basketball indoor stadium of KE College at Mannanam in Kottayam on Saturday.
The Reliance Foundation sponsored Skill Challenge is held under U-10, U-12 and U-14 categories on a knockout basis to select the best players for advanced training at NBA in the US.
Six students of the St Ephrems Sports Academy are among those contesting the challenge.
The three-day event will conclude at the indoor basketball court of the KE College, Mannanam, on Sunday.
The NBA grassroots basketball initiative for the school going boys and girls is held in association with the District Basketball Associations.
The program helps kids to learn the fundamentals of the game.
The Jr NBA has floated the programme to spot talents at grassroot level and create a different experience for players, coaches and parents.
It includes 48 practice plans and more than 250 instructional videos featuring NBA and WNBA players.
The event is being held at the basketball indoor stadium for the last few years due to the dedicated work of the CMI congregation managed institutions like The KE College, KE Higher Secondary School, St Ephrems School and the center for excellence of basketball, State’s powerhouse, under the blessings of St Kuriakose Elias Chavara.
The arrangements are supervised, guided and support by the St Ephrems Sports Academy Director Fr Antony Kanjirathinkal.
The participants get all the support from the
the CMI congregation managed institutions and the sports academy like fre accommodation, food, medical support among others.
The management have been conducting the event in a highly professional manner that makes it a favorite destination for the district sports management to select the place as the venue each year.
