Kochi: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s daughter T Veena has deposed before the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) in connection with the alleged pay-off case connected with the Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd (CMRL), media reports saud.
Veena appeared before the SFIO at Chennai on Wednesday about 10 months after the agency registered a case in this connection, Manorama News reported.
In August, 2023, the Income Tax department found Veena getting Rs 1.72 crore monthly for three years 2017 to 20 from CMRL which had hired Veena’s software firm Exalogic Solutions for various services. However, the SFIO has alleged that she had received remuneration without offering any service.
The three member Income Tax Settlement Board said the Income Tax Department has found strong evidence that the money was paid for services not rendered.
The SFIO was tasked with investigating the financial dealings between CMRL and Exalogic Solutions in January, 2024.
The IT department had also found many Congress leaders including late Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, former Congress minister Ramesh Chennithala, Muslim league leaders P K Kunhalikutty, Ibrahimkunju among others receiving money illegally,the reports said.
