NGOs’ licences scrapped

Kochi: In a blow to the Congress, the centre has scrapped the licenses under Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) of two NGOs named after late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, media reports said.

The decision was taken for alleged irregularities in foreign contributions received by the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation and the Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust  associated with the Gandhi family, media reports said.

The CBI is expected to probe into the alleged irregularities which was exposed by a panel formed by the Home Ministry in 2020 to probe allegations of irregularities in the NGOs.

Former Congress President Sonia Gandhi heads the two outfits. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi, MP, party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and former union Minister P Chidambaram are members of the foundation.

Rahul Gandhi and former MP Dr Ashok S Ganguly are among the members of the trust.
