Stress on Infra, R&D projects in budget

Kochi: A total of Rs 11.11 trillion is targeted in the infrastructure Capex which is up by 11 per cent during 2024-25 compared to previous period in the union budget presented by the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday.

Tourism, spiritual tourism, local entrepreneurship will get a fillip. The railways will upgrade 40,000 coaches like Vande Bharat rakes, three railway economic corridors.

The Centre will borrow Rs 14.13 trillion for the year. A total of Rs 1 trillion corpus for research in technology.

‘Lakhpati Didi’ scheme will target 3 crore women. Housing scheme will be launched for ‘deserving’ middle class soon.

The divestment target is Rs 50,000 crore. A corpus of Rs 1 trillion will be established with a 50-year interest-free loan. 

The government will present a detailed roadmap in pursuit of Vikasit Bharat in July. Three hundred units of free electricity every month will go to 10 million households. Ayushman Bharat cover extended to all ASHA, and Anganwadi workers. The Government will pay utmost attention to make the Eastern region a powerful driver of India’s growth.

A total of 300 million Mudra Yojna loans will be given to women entrepreneurs. The fiscal deficit in 2023-24 is expected to be 5.8 per cent, lower than the earlier estimates of 5.9 per cent. It has been pegged at 5.1 per cent for 2024-25, the Finance minister said.
