Kochi: Factionalism in Congress surfaced again in Kerala making it a herculean task for the party national leadership to pick the new Chief Minister.
The adamancy of seniormost leader Ramesh Chennithala, 69, K C Venugopal, 63, and the youngest among them V D Satheesan, 62, has put Congress’ reputation at stake.
Voting back to power after a drought of one decade, the leaders do not want to give up the opportunity that has come their way.
While K C Venugopal claimed support of over 40 MLAs, Satheesan and Chennithala groups discounted the claim
Satheesan claimed support of MLAs between 30 and 35 while Chennithala faction claimed backing of 23 legislators.
Satheesan told the National leadership to not stick to the formula of selecting the Chief Minister who has maximum number of MLAs.
However, Satheesan group dismissed reports of the leader refusing any positions if he was not given the Chief Minister post.
