Tain collision kills 9

Kochi: Nine passengers were killed and many injured in a collision between two trains near Vizianagaram district in Andhra Pradesh, media reports said.

The incident occurred when the passenger train from Vijayanagaram to Raigad banged another passenger train from Visakhapatnam to Palasa.

It was a rear collision, the reports said.

East Coast Railway (ECoR) suspected the accident on a human error by Visakhapatnam- Rayagada passenger train for jumping the signal.

Local administration and NDRF took part in rescue operations, the reports quoting railway sources said.

Authorities are providing all possible assistance to those affected. The Prime Minister extends condolences to the bereaved families and prays that the injured recover soon,” PMO said on X.

Expressing shock, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy ordered all assistance to the injured.

In a statement he ordered nearby hospitals to provide good medical care to the injured,” a statement issued by the CMO said.

Large number of passengers were stranded at different stations due to the accident, the reports said.
