Teacher in soup for question on Savarkar

Kochi: A teacher in Kerala was on Sunday suspended for glorifying freedom fighter V D Savarkar in a quiz in connection with the country’s Independence Day in a school in Kasaragod, Asianet News reported.
The General Education Department suspended the teacher of AUP School Pallathadka, Kasaragod, for framing a question as to “Who is the freedom fighter who received the most severe punishment from the British?”
This led to protests from some quarters with the CPM accusing the Congress led government of promoting RSS propaganda.
Minister for General Education N Samsudheen had ordered a probe on the basis of which the teacher was suspended.
The quiz was held on August 6 at schools under the Kasaragod, Kumbla and Manjeshwar sub-districts as part of the 80th Independence Day Celebrations.
Snehil Kumar Singh, Director of General Education, issued the suspension order on Sunday and directed a comprehensive probe into the matter. The teacher will face department-level action.
