HC stays Priya’s appointment

Kochi: The Kerala High Court has stayed appointment of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s Private secretary K K Ragesh’s wife Priya Varghese as associate professor in Kannur University.

The interim stay was issued after another aspirant Joseph Scaria challenged the appointment of Priya despite her being the last in the list of candidates with research scores.

The court has impleaded UGC in the case.

Scaria who topped the list with 651 marks was toppled by Priya Varghese in the interview despite scoring a meagre 156 marks for research works. Scaria was placed in the second spot.

The court would hear the case August 31. This led to protests and complaints were lodged with the Governor who stayed the appointment a few days back.

Governor alleged that the appointment was carried out due to the connivance of Kannur University Vice Chancellor Gopinath Raveendran.
