Kochi: Donald John Trump of the Republican party got 279 electoral college votes to make a historic return to the White House, media reports said.
His rival Kamala Harris of Democratic Party secured 223 electoral college votes.
Trump polled 71,525,426 votes which is 50.9% while Kamala Harris got 66,660,766 votes which is 47.4%. Trump will be the first US president with a criminal conviction to win America’s presidential election, BBC reported.
At 78, the president-elect is the oldest man to ever be elected to the position.He previously served as the 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2021.
From being a businessman, real estate tycoon and reality TV star, Trump will be the country’s first former US President to be declared a convicted felon.
He survived two assassination bids during the poll campaign. Trump previously served as the 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2021.
