UDF hijacks Local polls

Kochi: BJP’s dream of Congress mukt Bharat crashed as the party won four Corporations while BJP won 50 seats to wrest Thiruvananthapuram from CPM-led LDF in Local bodies poll today.
The UDF won Kollam, Kochi, Thrissur, Kannur Corporations while Kannur went in favour of the Left front.
The NDA won Palakkad Municipality for the third time and key Tripunithura for the first time.
The UDF was leading in 54 of the 86 municipalities while the LDF was ahead in 28.
In Thiruvananthapuram district, the LDF won Attingal, Nedumangad, Neyyattinkara and Varkala.
The LDF retained Kottarakkara, Paravoor and Punalur. UDF wrested Karunagappally from the left in Kollam district.
.UDF won Pathanamthitta and Thiruvalla municipalities and Pandalam from BJP while the LDF secured Adoor.
The UDF won Chengannur, Cherthala, Haripad, Kayamkulam and Mavelikkaran in
Alappuzha district while the LDF retained Alappuzha municipality.
The UDF won Changanassery, Ettumanoor, Kottayam and Vaikom while independents emerged strongest with 14 seats in Erattupetta while the LDF won Pala Municipality.
Aluva, Angamaly, Eloor, Kalamassery, Koothattukulam, Kothamangalam, Maradu, Muvattupuzha, North Paravur, Perumbavoor, Piravom, Thrikkakara in Ernakulam went in favour of UDF.
The UDF won Chalakudy and Irinjalakuda, while the LDF secured Chavakkad, Guruvayoor, Kodungallur, Kunnamkulam and Vadakkancherry in Thrissur.
UDF won Cheruplassery, Chittur–Thathamangalam, Mannarkkad and Pattambi, despite the controversy surrounding Rahul Mamkootathil in Palakkad district.
The LDF won Shornur and Ottapalam.
In Malappuram the UDF-backed IUML won 11 of the 12 municipalities. The LDF retained only Ponnani.
UDF won Feroke, Koduvally, Payyoli and Thamarassery, and the LDF , Koyilandy, Mukkam and Vadakara Kozhikode theIn Wayanad, the UDF won Mananthavady and Sulthan Bathery, LDF retained Kalpetta.
In Kannur LDF won Anthoor, Iritty, Koothuparamba, Payyannur and Thalassery. UDF in Panoor, Sreekandapuram and Thalipparamba.
In Kasaragod UDF won Kasaragod municipality. Kanhangad’s fate ended in a tie between the LDF and UDF with 20 seats each. The fate of the municipality will now depend on the support of four NDA councillors and three independents.
Kerala local body elections were held in two phases on December 9 and December 11.
Kerala Assembly elections scheduled in mid 2026.
