Kochi: Venad Express (16302) will skip Ernakulam junction from May 1 as part of railways plans to streamline train services in the sector, media reports said.
Shortage of platform and unnecessary delay in changing of engine in Ernakulam junction are the main reasons for rerouting of the train.Commissioning of Tripunithura terminal of Kochi Metro is another reason for the railways to take the decision.
The train will now stop at Ernakulam Town from where metro services are available to Ernakulam junction. This has led to change in timing of Venad Express from Thiruvananthapuram to Shoranur Junction and return.
It will reach Ernakulam Town at 9:50 am.The pairing train (16301) will reach Ernakulam Town at: 5:15 pm, Tripunithura: 5:37 pm.
