Kochi: One of the key conspirators of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, Tahawwur Hussain Rana was a trusted agent of the Pakistan army, sources told India Today TV.
Rana, who is in NIA custody in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, told the Mumbai Crime Branch that he and his friend David Coleman Headley had attended several training sessions with Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), sources said.
Stating that LeT mainly worked as a spy network, he admitted he was in Mumbai during the 26/11 attacks and that was part of the terrorists’ plan, sources said.
Rana, 64, inspected targeted places for 26/11 attacks in collaboration with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), sources said.
The Mumbai Police are preparing to arrest Rana as soon as possible and take him into custody.
A Pakistan -origin Canadian, the US extradited Rana to India earlier this year after his review petition was dismissed by US Supreme Court on April 4.
After formally taking into judicial custody by the NIA, Rana is being questioned in connection with charges including conspiracy, murder, commission of a terrorist act, forgery among others.
Rana’s judicial custody ends on July 9. The 26/11 Mumbai attacks were carried out by 10 Pakistani terrorists killing 166 people in prominent locations like Jewish centre Nariman House, Taj and Oberoi hotels, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus among others.
