Kochi: Legendary film Sholay celebrated the golden jubilee of its release on August 15, 1975, Times of India reported.
Directed by Ramesh Sippy and produced by his father G P Sippy, the film was shot in the rocky terrain of Ramanagara in Karnataka for over two and a half years from October 1973.
Written by Salim–Javed, the 198-minute long film was released after several cuts by the censor board.
It was ranked first in the British Film Institute’s 2002 poll of “Top 10 Indian Films” of all time.
Ramesh Sippy was pessimistic over casting Amjad Khan as the deadly Gabbar with top stars Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra.
The Maharashtra Postal Circle unveiled two specially designed picture postcards and a presentation pack on the occasion.
