Kochi: Five cops of Kerala Police have been accused of assaulting two Youth Congress leaders in Alappuzha during the travel of former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in connection with statewide People’s court in December 2023.
The SIT submitted its report before the First Class Judicial Magistrate Court in Alappuzha against accused Anil, Sandeep, Shyju, Vipin and Arun, Asianetnews reported.
The SIT will forward its report for Department action to the DGP soon.
The seven member team is headed by Shoukathali, SP, Crime Branch Alappuzha. Other members are Crime Branch DySP Baiju Poulose, Sub-Inspector Tolson, Crime Branch SI Jayakrishnan, ASI Rajesh, Crime Branch SI Deenadayal Mallan and SI Amrutharaj, SI Alappuzha.
The State Police Chief Ravada Chandrasekhar had directed the SIT to complete the investigation within one month.
Based on the complaint of victims Ajay Jewel Kuriakose and A D Thomas of the Youth Congress, the local police conducted a preliminary inquiry and gave a clean chit to the accused security officers then.
The Alappuzha Judicial First Class Magistrate Court had rejected the Crime Branch version.
