Kochi: The Allahabad High Court rejected the petition challenging the citizenship of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi for absence of evidence against him.
The ruling was made by a division bench the other day while disposing off the petition accusing Gandhi of having citizenship of Britain.
The petition challenging Gandhi election to the Lok Sabha from Rae Bareli was dismissed by the Lucknow Bench.
The Court noted that the petitioners had previously filed a similar writ petition in 2015 when it held that the remedy for such a grievance should be dealt by the Central Government under Section 9(2) of the Citizenship Act, 1955.
An identical petition in 2019 came before the court which observed that the issue had matter before the Central Government.
