Kochi: An Indian naval man was arrested by Andhra Pradesh special team at Coimbatore for allegedly spying for Pakistan.
The 31-year-old Pradeep Mukherjee was arrested by Andhra Pradesh Police Counter Intelligence (CI) on October 3 at INS Agrani in Coimbatore, media reports said.
The sailor is accused of allegedly leaking classified maritime intelligence to a Pakistani intelligence operative who befriended him on social media-based, officials said on Sunday.
He was attending a management development course when he was arrested.
The Pakistani obtained sensitive information about strategic naval assets, fleet movements and the operational framework of the Visakhapatnam naval base.
The CI cell launched an investigation after detecting suspicious digital activity linked to Mukherjee, a native of West Bengal.
He joined the Navy in 2014 and was posted with the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam.
