Kochi: With New Zealand defeating Afghanistan, all the hopes of India entering the semi-finals of ICC T20 World Cup ended on Sunday. Winning the toss, Afghanistan decided to bat first and only managed to score up 129 for 8.
Trent Boult took 3 for 17 for New Zealand. New Zealand reached their target in just 18.1 overs with Kane Williamson making 40 and Devon Conway 36.
Kiwis will take on England while Australia would play against Pakistan in the semi-finals. Humiliating defeats at the hands of Pakistan and New Zealand in the first and second matches respectively at the prestigious T20 event cost India dearly.
Though the men in blue put up a stunning show in their third and fourth match against Afghanisthan and Scotland by earning a run rate better than Kiwis, the defeat of Afghanistan against New Zealand sealed India’s fate.
