Kochi: In an embarrassment to the Congress, Veer Savarkar’s picture appeared in the flex board erected in connection with the Bharat Jodo yatra led by Party leader Rahul Gandhi
at Athani near Aluva near Kochi in Kerala.
As the matter surfaced, the state Congress swung into action and replaced the image with that of Mahatma Gandhi before the yatra reached the spot at Nedumbasserry Kottayi junction, media reports said.
The party also suspended the leader involved in the mischief. Congress Mandalam secretary Suresh was suspended.
The disciplinary action was initiated by the party’s district committee. Rabindranath Tagore, Abul Kalam Azad and G B Pant.
Congress is a strong critic of Savarkar, who is a right wing leader.
