Kochi: Actor Mohan Lal has approached the Kerala High Court challenging a lower court ruling against him in a case related to the actor possessing ivory.
Claiming that he was in possession of the ownership certificate of the ivory, Mohan Lal
challenged the recent order of the Judicial First Class Magistrate’s Court III, Perumbavoor.
The Perumbavoor court had recently dismissed the prosecution’s demand to withdraw proceedings against him initiated on the basis of a case registered by the Forest Department under the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 about a decade back.
The Forest Department had accused him of illegally possessing the ivory which was
unearthed by the Income Tax department from his house in Thevara during a raid conducted in his house in 2011.
Mohan Lal had moved an application with the government in January 2016 and September 2019 seeking to withdraw the case claiming that he had bought the ivory legally. Considering this the prosecution had sought to withdraw the case.
