Kochi: Kerala cabinet gave its nod to the bill to curtail the power of Governor in appointing the Vice Chancellors in the state universities.
The cabinet decided that the government would decide the Governor’s nominee in the Search Committee that appoints the Vice Chancellors.
The size of the Search Committee would swell from three to five. The bill would be presented in the next Assembly session.
The Search Committee had the nominees of Governor, UGC and University. Two more government nominees would make it five.
The Governor’s nominee would be decided by the government.
The Governor would have no power to dissent the government which could go ahead with its decision to nominate the VC without any hurdles.
