Cop suspended for norms breach

Kochi: Kerala Home Department has suspended DySP Sudheer Kallan who erred in the arrest of Dr Ram, who is an accused in the suicide of student of Kannur Dental College, has been suspended.
Kannur Crime Branch DySP P Sudheer Kallan was suspended for violating procedures in the arrest of Dr Ram, Asianet News reported.
The Kerala High Court had strongly criticised the Home Ministry for committing the error.
The official had failed to serve notice to Dr Ram stating the ground of arrest.
The error was pin pointed by the defence lawyer leading to the Thalassery court freeing him.
The Kerala High had summoned Crime Branch Superintendent of police and DySp Sudheer Kallan.
Delay in action against DySP made High Court furious.
Malappuram Crime Branch SP P M Mohan Chandran has replaced Sudheer. Nithin Raj The 22-year-old first-year dental student Nitin Raj ended life on April 10, 2026, following intense allegations of caste-based harassment by faculty members.
Nithin had also saved voice messages detailing the harassment he experienced. The college suspended two faculty members, Dr M K Ram and Dr K T Sangeetha Nambiar, after the incident.
The Kerala Crime Branch arrested Dr Ram, Head of the Dental Anatomy Department, in Karnataka on July 19, 2026, after the Supreme Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea.
