Kochi: Eight years after the murder of a Youth Congress worker Mattannur Shuhaib, a court in Kerala’s Kannur district on Monday revoked the bail of all 17 accused CPM workers in the case of February 12, 2018, media reports said.
The Thalassery Additional District and Sessions Court-III remanded the accused after the defence repeatedly refused to cross-examine eyewitnesses.
The trial started eight years after the charge sheet was filed in the killing of 29-year-old Shuhaib.
The prosecution claimed that the first five accused were directly involved in the murder.
The first eyewitness, Riyas, who was also injured in the attack, testified against the accused on the opening day of the trial on May 18.
According to prosecution Shuhaib was attacked when he was going with his friends including Riyas.
A single Judge of Kerala High Court had ordered a CBI probe in response to a plea from Shuhaib’s parents, but a larger bench overturned it when the CPM-led LDF government appealed against the CBI probe. The chargesheet was filed on May 14, 2018.
