Kochi: CPI Kerala chief Kanam Rajendran, 73, passed away due to a heart attack here today.
He was undergoing treatment for diabetes in a hospital in Kochi.
Rajendran was not active in politics for over three months due to ill health.
Born on November 10, 1950, in Kootikkal, in Kottayam, Kanam made his entry to politics through AIYF. Rajendran became its state secretary when he was 23.
Kanam was elected CPI Kerala chief thrice.
He was elected to Kerala Assembly in 1982 and 1987 from the Vazhoor constituency.
He is survived by wife and two children.
