Kochi: Five policemen were on Tuesday suspended for assaulting Youth Congress leaders who were detained at Alappuzha by local police during former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi’s statewide personal contact programme in December, 2023, Kerala Kaumudi reported.
The Kerala DGP issued suspension orders based on the report submitted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to probe into the assailants by the new Congress led government.
The suspended cops include Pinarayi’s
gunman Anil Kumar, security officer Sandeep, and police men Shyju, Arun, and Vipin.
The SIT submitted the report before the Alappuzha Magistrate’s Court which had directed investigation into the case on the basis of the pleas of the victims.
The victims moved the court after police refused to register an FIR against the cops who based the Congress men.
The SIT report also points out that the accused committed serious violations.
Despite Superintendent of Police Chaitra Teresa John recommending action against the gunmen, a top police official not only diluted the case but also transferred her to Kollam.
ADGP M R Ajit Kumar is accused of suppressing the report.
