Kochi: In a major blow to the Congress, eight Congress MLAs in Goa joined the BJP on Wednesday bringing down the strength of Congress to three in the assembly.
There were eleven Congress members in the Goa assembly.
The defectors included former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, leader of Opposition Micheal Lobo, wife Delilah Lobo, Kedar Naik, Rudolfo Fernandes, former minister Aleixo Sequeira, Rajesh Phal Dessai, and Sankalp Amonkar.
Michael Lobo confirmed told reporters that reports of migration were correct. With this the total number of the ruling BJP led front in the 40-member house would go up to 33.
BJP led alliance is ruling Goa since the election early this year.
