Kochi: Noted filmmaker Siddique, 64, passed away in a private hospital here on Monday evening, media reports said.
He was undergoing treatment at Amrita Hospital for the last few days. Siddique was hospitalized on July 10 for non-alcoholic liver cirrhosis. He was recommended for a liver transplant when he suffered a heart attack on Sunday and was in critical condition. He was under support of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, the reports said.
Siddique started as a mimicry artist in the 1980s through Kalabhavan troupe. Later, he joined hands with Lal to make several blockbusters including Ramji Rao Speaking made in 1989. However, the two parted ways. Siddique grew into a very successful director, screenwriter, actor and producer. His film Bodyguard in Malayalam was a super hit and was remade as Kaavalan in Tamil. This film was remade in Hindi as Bodyguard with Salman Khan as hero.
