Apex Court relief to Shinde

Kochi: In a major relief to rebel Shiv Sena MLA Eknath Shinde camp, the Supreme Court allowed them to file their responses to the disqualification notices till July 12.
Earlier, they were asked to submit their replies by 5.30 pm on Monday.
The Apex Court issued notices to Maharashtra Deputy Speaker Narhari Zirwal, Chief Whip Sunil Prabhu, leader of Legislature party Anil Chaudhary and to the Centre in this regard.
Shinde had challenged the disqualification notices issued to him and 15 other rebel MLAs.
Shinde told the court that there were threats to him and the MLAs supporting him.
The Maharashtra government assured the court to increase security to the MLAs.
Shinde claimed that the government has lost majority as 38 of 55 Shiv Sena legislators have withdrawn their support to the government.
Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate issued summons to the Chief Minister’s supporter and Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut in a
Rs 1,034-crore Patra Chawl land scam money laundering case.
Raut responded that his party was ready for a “street fight and a legal battle”.
A group of citizens has filed a public interest litigation in the Bombay High Court against Eknath Shinde and other rebel Shiv Sena MLAs.
