Kochi: Eleven devotees were electrocuted and at least six seriously injured when they were pulling a chariot in connection with a temple festival in Thanjavur in the wee hours of today.
The dead included a few children, media reports said.
The event was organised in connection with Apar Gurupuja in remembrance of a saint Thirunavukarassar in Kalimedu, the reports said.
The incident happened when the chariot came in contact with a live high tension wire when it was negotiating a bend.
Fire and rescue personnel rushed to the spot and took the injured to Thanjavur medical College.
The chief minister M K Stalin has announced a relief of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased and has ordered the best medical assistance.
