Kochi: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan has asked the former Vice Chancellors (VC) to return the money they spent from the university fund for their legal fight against his order declaring their appointment ab initio void, media reports said.
Eleven former VCs had challenged the Governor’s decision to nullify their appointment by upholding the Supreme Court order. These VCs had spent Rs 1.13 crore for their legal fight against the governor, the reports said.
The Governor, who is the chancellor of universities, sought to redeem the money illegally spent for their individual benefits.The Governor observed that sanctioning funds towards these legal expenses is not justifiable, the reports said.
Former Kannur University VC Dr Gopinath Raveendran topped by spending the highest amount of Rs 69 lakh.
