Kochi: The 42-year-old Indian origin Rishi Sunak has resumed charge as the Prime Minister of the UK after meeting King Charles III.
King Charles invited the leader of the Conservative Party to become Prime Minister and form a government during a function held at Buckingham Palace, London.
The greatest challenge before Sunak is bringing unity in his party and rescue the country out of the tight economic crises.
Sunak of Indian became Prime Minister following the resignation of Liz Truss who later quit expressing her inability to solve the issues facing the country.
The youngest Prime Minister in the last 200 years, Sunak is a non white leader and the first person from Hindu community to occupy the post. It was his resignation as Chancellor of the exchequer that led to resignations of Boris Government and Truss becoming Prime Minister defeating Sunak.
Truss failed to solve the problems and resigned, paving the way for Sunak’s coronation.
Sunak has been Member of Parliament for Richmond (Yorks) since 2015. He was chosen as the Tory leader in Parliament as rival Penny Mordaunt left out of the race extending full support to Sunak.
Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson also quit the race..Rishi is married to Akshata, daughter of Infosys founder N R Narayana Murthy. Rishi is a teetotaler. He has served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2020 to 2022 and Chief Secretary to the Treasury from 2019 to 2020.
