India win Oval test

Kochi: India gave a shock to England when they defeated the hosts by 157 runs in the final overs at Oval in the fourth test match today. India notched the victory after upsetting predictions of experts who said England will win in the beginning.

After getting a lead of 99 runs in the first innings, England went complacent in the second innings and went for big hits underestimating India’s prowess. In the process, Yadav stole 3 for 60 Bumrah, Jadeja, and Thakur claimed two each. The match has discovered a good all-rounder in Shardul Thakur who was the highest scorer with 57 in first innings in which India made only 197. In the second innings, he made 60 which was the third highest in the innings. Though he could get only one wicket as a bowler in first innings, he took two in the second innings.

Rohit Sharma was the architect of the match as he made a classy 127 in second innings supported by Pujara 61. While Pant made 50, it was a great relief to see tail-enders Yadav hitting 25 and Bumrah 24.

For England, Pope made 81 and Woakes 50 in first innings while Hameed made 63 and Burns 50 in second innings. For England, Woakes took 4 for 55 and Robinson 3 for 38 in first innings. In the second innings, Woakes took 3 for 83.

Final score India First innings 191, England 290, second innings India  466 and England 210
