IPL is entertainer, money spinner


Kochi: The exciting IPL season will conclude today when Chennai Super Kings will lock horns in the finals at Ahmedabad with the not so new Gujarat Titans which are the reigning champions.
CSK, led by two format world cups winning captain M S Dhoni, and Gujarat team, captained by all rounder Hardik Pandya, will be a feat for the cricket lovers.
IPL redefined the game of cricket in India by not only creating huge wealth and employment, but also spotting budding talents from poor households.
The moolah involves huge earnings for IPL and BCCI through media rights, teams’ brand values, sponsorship deals, ticket sales, franchisee sales, among others.
Last year, it saw the revenue zooming to over Rs 48,000 crore, media reports said.
The IPL’s brand value rose over 75 per cent year on year basis to reach 8.4 billion dollars despite hurdles like the advent of Corona.
Starting in 2008, IPL has gone a long way in helping the BCCI, IPL governing council, teams, sponsors, broadcasters, stadiums, and players to increase their earnings heavily. The IPL is the most-watched sports league in the world barring non football and NBA leagues. It goes on par with the world’s top leagues, the reports said.
IPL’s brand value rose to 8.4 billion dollars in 2022 and media rights of Rs 48,000 crore. Viacom18 won the IPL’s digital media rights for Rs 23,758 crore and Star India grabbed India TV rights for Rs 23,575 crore in a five-year deal in 2022, the reports said.
TATA group won the Title sponsor for Rs 670 crore for two years.
Dream 11, CRED, up, RuPay, Saudi Tourism Authority, Swiggy Instamart, Upstox won the official sponsorship for Rs 210 crore.
While the starting price of online tickets range from Rs 500 to Rs 2,100, the end price can go up to Rs 30,000, the reports said.
