Kochi: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps naval commander Alireza Tangsiri, who was responsible for guarding Hormuz
Strait, has been killed, BBC reported quoting Israel Defence Minister Israel Katz.
He said a number of other “senior Navy command officials” have also been killed.
Iran has not yet reacted on it.
Tangsiri was one of the few big names who had survived a number of US-Israeli assassination attempts.
An experienced commander in place since 2018, Tangsiri has played a significant part in Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran’s chokehold on the passage has led to a 95 per cent drop in daily shipping of energy through the critical waterways.
