Phalke award for Asha Parekh

Kochi: Yesteryear Bollywood superstar, Asha Parekh has won the 52nd Dadasaheb Phalke award 2020 for her outstanding contribution to the film industry.

It will be presented during the 68th National Film Awards ceremony in New Delhi on Friday. This was announced by the Union I&B Minister Anurag Thakur, media reports said.

Asha Parekh was the first woman to become chairperson of Central Board of Film Certification from 1998 to 2001. Asha Parekh won the Padma Shri in 1992.

A highest paid actor of yesteryear, Asha Parekh was one of the most influential actresses in Bollywood.

A classical dancer, Asha Parekh started as a child artist in noted Director Bimal Roy’s film Maa when she was just 10 years old in 1952. She did a similar role in Baap Beti in 1954.

It was the film Dil Deke Dekho of 1959 that launched her to the height of popularity. There was no looking back after that. Films like Love in Tokyo, Kati patang, Aan Milo Sajna, Aaya Sawan Zhoom Ke, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Teesri Manzil, Caravan among others catapulted her to the zenith of super stardom.
She did 95 films. Asha took to serial and film distribution in later part of her career.
