Kochi: Music director K J Joy, 77, passed away in the wee hours of today at Chennai, media reports said.
Hailing from Nellikunnu in Thrissur in Kerala, Joy composed music for 71 films.
Groomed under noted composer M S Vishwanathan, he debuted in 1975 through Love Letter.
Some of hits are En Swaram (Anupallavi), Akkare Ikkare Ninnal (Itha Oru Theeram), Kurumozhi (Pappu), Oo Neeyente Jeevanil (Madaalasa) Swarnameeninte (Sarpam) Ee Jeevithamoru Paaravaaram (Ivanente Priyaputhran) and Thechippoove Mizhithurakku (Hridhayam Paadunnu).
Kasthoori Maanmizhi (Manushya Mrugam) which was filimised on late actor Jayan, is an evergreen melody of Joy.
