Kochi: In a major ruling, the Supreme Court allowed bail to Martin Antony who is the second accused in the actor assault case of 2017.
The court said the charges raised in the case were of serious nature, but Martin was in jail for five years which is a long time and some accused have already got bail in the case.
The court rejected Kerala government’s plea that the police is in a crucial phase of probing a case against actor Dileep related to harming cops who had probed the assault case.
The court said it was not considering anything outside issues pertaining to granting of bail to Martin.
The court said it is not clear when the case would end. Let the police conduct an investigation and bring the truth out.
The court also refused to impose strict conditions while granting the bail. The trial court can decide on it, the apex court said.
Earlier, the police, probing the conspiracy to harm the cops, had found that actor Dileep had destroyed data from his phone with the help of a private lab in Mumbai.
