Kochi: A restaurant owner Arshad
was arrested for allegations of acts intended to provoke communal disturbance at Alappuzha in Kerala, NDTV reported.
Proprietor of Mehar Mandi & Grills in Cherthala, Arshad allegedly circulated Vishu greetings cards featuring images of Lord Krishna with offerings of chicken during Kerala’s New year day, police said.
The offence carries a punishment of up to one year in prison. The complaint against him was filed by advocate M V Biju.
Meanwhile, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has announced a protest outside the restaurant.
Earlier, one of the stakeholders issued an apology through Instagram, saying the post was circulated within a private group and got shared unintentionally.
He added that the restaurant had no intention of hurting religious sentiments and offered an unconditional apology.
