High Court rejects former cop’s charges against ISRO scientist

Kochi: The Kerala High Court dismissed a petition filed by retired cop S Vijayan accusing former ISRO Nambi Narayanan of bribing Central investigating officials to absovle him from the 1994 ISRO spy case.

Dismissing the plea, the High Court said the petitioner has failed to prove his allegations against Nambi Narayanan, media reports said.

The court observed that a new petition could be considered only if the petitioner submitted documents supporting his claims.

Vijayan’s same petition was dismissed by the trial court in Thiruvananthapuram.
Vijayan, who was Circle Inspector during the registration of the case against Nambi Narayanan, had accused the scientist of transferring land to the investigation officials in Tamil Nadu.

Vijayan filed the petition against Nambi Narayanan after the CBI registered FIR against Vijayan and many other polic e officials as per the direction of the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court had this year directed the CBI to probe the case afresh based on the report submitted by Justice D K Jain Committee report set up in 2018 to enquire into the ISRO spy case.

Nambi Narayanan, who was head of the Cryogenic division, was among a few ISRO officials arrested in 1994 by Kerala police acusing them of involving in the spy case.

Nambi Narayanan was acquitted by the court in 1995 after which fought a prolonged legal battle seeking damages for the defamation suffered by him and action against the police officials.

Kerala government has paid him damages of Rs 1.80 crore as per the directions of different courts.
Besides Vijayan, the CBI has filed FIRs against former DGP Sibi Mathew.
