Kochi: Goa origin Shane Sebastian Pereira, 43, became an Indian under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019.
He is the second Goan from Pakistan to get Indian citizenship after the implementation of CAA in 2019.
Shane was born in Karachi on August 4, 1981. About a few months after his birth, his family moved back to Goa.
He had his education in Goa.
He married Maria Gloria Fernandes, an Indian citizen, in 2012 and applied for Indian citizenship which remained in papers, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said.
Sawant handed over the citizenship certificate to Shane at the Secretariat.
Shane was staying here on a visit visa which was renewed every year at the Foreigners Regional Registration Office.
He thanked the Goa government,” he said.
Earlier in August,
Joseph Pereira (78) of Goa was the first person to get Indian citizenship in August, 2024. Joseph had migrated to Pakistan when Goa was under Portuguese rule. He returned to India in 2013.
