Kochi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Kerala to dedicate the nation Vizhinjam International Seaport near Thiruvananthapuram on Friday.
The Prime Minister’s Air India One flight landed at the technical area of the Thiruvananthapuram airport at around 7.50 PM.
The Prime Minister proceeded to the Raj Bhavan. He will attend a dinner with Governor Rajendra Arlekar. Tomorrow at 10.15 AM, The Prime Minister will reach Vizhinjam in an Indian Air Force helicopter at 10.15 am.
He will then inspect the port operations.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Governor Rajendra Arlekar, Union Minister for Ports Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Ministers Suresh Gopi and George Kurian, Shashi Tharoor, MP, and Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani are among those scheduled to speak on the occasion.
It is the country’s first deep-water mother port which is designed to be a multi-purpose, all-weather, green port. It is India’s first automated port.
It is the only Indian port directly adjacent to an international shipping lane. It lies just 10 nautical miles from the east-west shipping channel connecting Europe, to the Persian Gulf, Southeast Asia, and the Far East (Suez – Far East route and Far East – Middle East route).
