Police to probe against Pinarayi, Veena, Riyas

Kochi: Kerala government on Tuesday granted permission to probe into Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vjayan, daughter Veena T and her husband Mohammed Riyas, MLA on charges including bribery.
The decision to go ahead with the probe was taken after the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) sought action against them under different charges, Asianet news reported.
The investigation will be conducted by a Special Investigation Team led by Crime Branch ADGP.
Chief Minister V D Satheesan and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala had held parleys in this connection.
The direction to conduct investigation was issued to Crime Branch ADGP by Ramesh Chennithala who told reporters.
The ED has leveled charges of bribery, money laundering, and hawala allegations against former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Veena, and Riyas in the Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) pay-off case.
An order will be issued soon, he said. He cited a court ruling to conduct a preliminary investigation before registering an FIR.
