Kochi: The name of 42-year-old Rishi Sunak of Indian origin is making rounds as the top contender for post of Prime Minister of Britain with exit of Boris Johnson of Conservative Party after lost support of ministers and lawmakers.
It was his resignation as Chancellor of the exchequer that led a series of resignations
making Boris Government weak.
Rishi is married to Akshata, daughter of Infosys founder N R Narayana Murthy.
Rishi is a teetotaler. He has served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2020 to 2022 and Chief Secretary to the Treasury from 2019 to 2020. He has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Richmond (Yorks) since 2015.
The 58-year-old Johnson said he would continue in office until a new leader is in place.
